Tasting notes
With an intense ruby red color, Barbera d'Alba 2021 is characterized by deep aromas of ripe red and black cherries, enriched by subtle hints of vanilla and spices. On the palate, this wine offers a fresh acidity that perfectly balances its body. The refined structure is distinguished by excellent harmony and complexity that gradually emerge. The finish is long and enveloping, with a persistence that leaves a sensation of elegance and depth.
Pairings
This Barbera pairs beautifully with Piedmontese dishes, such as agnolotti al plin, tajarin al ragù, and boiled meats. It is also excellent with grilled red meats, roast pork, and mushroom-based dishes. Mature cheeses, such as pecorino or Grana Padano, pair perfectly with its acidity and complexity. Furthermore, thanks to its freshness, it can also accompany traditional Italian cold cuts and appetizers.
Why we like it
The vinification of this Barbera d'Alba begins in the single vineyard Scarrone, located in Castiglione Falletto, with a south-east exposure. The process involves a pre-fermentation cold maceration, followed by an alcoholic fermentation lasting about two weeks in open steel vats. During this phase, mechanical fungature, délestage and several pumping overs are carried out to facilitate the extraction of aromas and structure. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes a post-fermentation maceration with the skins, before being drawn off and transferred to barriques to complete malolactic fermentation.
The aging takes place for about 18 months, distributed between barriques, barrels and steel, helping to develop the complexity and balance that characterize this wine.
