Tasting notes

The Etna Rosso 2023 by Davide Fregonese showcases a bright ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of ripe red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, enriched by hints of sweet spices and volcanic minerals. On the palate, it is fresh and lively, with well-integrated tannins and an elegant structure. The finish is long, with an aftertaste that recalls the typical minerality of the Etna.

Pairings

Ideal for pairing with red meat dishes such as braised or roasted meats, the Etna Rosso 2023 also pairs well with aged cheeses and rich first courses featuring mushrooms or truffles. Its freshness also makes it a great match for game dishes.

Why we like it

The Etna Rosso DOC 2023 is produced in Davide Fregonese's vineyards located on the northern slope of Mount Etna, in volcanic soils at about 700-750 meters above sea level. This vintage reflects the unique characteristics of the Etna terroir, where the Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio vines, trained in the traditional "alberello" method, benefit from significant temperature variations between day and night. The 2023 harvest was marked by ideal weather, ensuring perfect grape ripeness. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks, followed by 12 months of aging in oak barrels, which adds complexity and depth to the wine.
