Pairings
This Barbera pairs beautifully with Piedmontese dishes, such as agnolotti al plin, tajarin al ragù, and boiled meats. It is also excellent with grilled red meats, roast pork, and mushroom-based dishes. Mature cheeses, such as pecorino or Grana Padano, pair perfectly with its acidity and complexity. Furthermore, thanks to its freshness, it can also accompany traditional Italian cold cuts and appetizers.
Why we like it
For the 2022 vintage, Barbera d'Alba Vigna Scarrone was produced from south-east facing vineyards in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. Vinification began with a pre-fermentation cold maceration, followed by an alcoholic fermentation lasting approximately two weeks in open steel vats. During this phase, techniques such as délestage and pumping over were applied to aid in the extraction of aromas and structure. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine continued with a post-fermentation maceration on the skins, before being drawn off and transferred to barriques to complete malolactic fermentation. Aging lasted approximately 18 months, in barriques, barrels and steel, giving the 2022 vintage the complexity and balance that make it unique.
