Tasting notes
Gorgona 2023 stands out with its brilliant straw-yellow color and golden highlights. The nose opens with a complex and elegantly intense bouquet, featuring Mediterranean and saline notes, along with scents of helichrysum, savory, rosemary, and floral hints of broom and chamomile. The fruit profile is marked by yellow-fleshed fruits, exotic fruits, and delicate citrus notes. On the palate, it is savory, fresh, and long-lasting, with excellent taste-olfactory correspondence. Once again, Gorgona impresses with its bold and defined character.
Pairings
Gorgona Bianco pairs perfectly with fresh and semi-aged cheeses, vegetarian dishes, and seafood recipes featuring white fish, shellfish, and crustaceans. Its freshness and salinity enhance the flavors of the sea and vegetables, making it a versatile and refined wine.
Why we like it
The Gorgona project, launched in 2012 through a collaboration between Frescobaldi and the island-prison of Gorgona, is a unique example of the integration between viticulture and social reintegration. Here, inmates work closely with nature, guided by agronomists and winemakers, learning the techniques of winemaking to facilitate their return to the workforce. The vineyard, located in a natural amphitheater overlooking the sea, covers two hectares and is planted with Vermentino and Ansonica. Gorgona 2023 celebrates the winds that shape the island’s climate, such as Grecale, Scirocco, Libeccio, and Mistral, elements that directly influence the ripening of the grapes. This wine, born from an extraordinary terroir, encapsulates the essence of Gorgona and the meticulous work of those who cultivate it, making it a symbol of hope and freedom.
