Tasting notes
Mormoreto 2021 presents itself with an intense and brilliant ruby red color, enriched by purple reflections. On the nose, it reveals an olfactory complexity that ranges from fruity to floral, up to spicy and empyreumatic notes. Berries, such as raspberry, blackcurrant, blueberry and wild strawberry, dominate the fruity profile, accompanied by hints of well-ripened cherry. Spices such as pepper and cinnamon follow, with hints of cocoa, tobacco and lightly toasted dried fruit. The olfactory finish leaves room for notes of black tea and coffee. On the palate, it is full-bodied, harmonious and persistent, with a soft and velvety tannic texture. The finish is extremely long, restoring intensity and depth to the back of the mouth.
Pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with roast or grilled red meat dishes, game and mature cheeses. Its structure and complexity also make it ideal with rich and tasty dishes such as braised or stewed meats.
Why we like it
The Mormoreto vineyard is located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, on sandy soils with a south-west exposure. The 2021 harvest, carried out manually in 15 kg crates, guaranteed extreme care in the selection of the grapes, first in the vineyard and then in the cellar, ensuring the highest possible quality. The harvested grapes showed ideal ripeness with a splendid acidic vein. After racking, malolactic fermentation took place immediately. At the end of the year, Mormoreto began its refinement in French oak barriques, where it remained for 18 months, benefiting from the natural micro-oxygenation of the oak. The subsequent refinement in the bottle allowed the wine to further harmonize, best expressing its elegance and potential.
