Tasting notes

This Montecucco Sangiovese Riserva presents an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it reveals a complex and deep bouquet, with elegant earthy and mineral notes, complemented by ripe red fruits and hints of orange peel. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, well-balanced with remarkable freshness and roundness. The flavor is harmonious, featuring sweet tannins on entry and a pleasantly savory finish.

Pairings

Poggio Lombrone pairs perfectly with game, wild boar, roasted meats, braised dishes, and stews. It also goes wonderfully with medium-aged hard cheeses.

Why we like it

The grapes for Poggio Lombrone come from vineyards with an average age of 50 years, cultivated according to the principles of organic farming. Yields are kept intentionally low, at only 40 quintals per hectare, ensuring superior quality. The harvest is entirely manual, and spontaneous fermentation takes place in small 10 hl conical wooden vats, with frequent and gentle manual punch-downs. This process allows for long macerations, favoring the extraction of ripe and velvety tannins. The malolactic fermentation occurs in 40-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels, where the wine matures for 30 months, developing complexity and depth.
