Why we like it
The 2022 vintage of Irisse Montecucco Vermentino was marked by unique climatic conditions. A winter with little rainfall and mild temperatures was followed by a spring that was also dry, with early rising temperatures starting in May. The long-awaited August rains helped to rehydrate the grapes, promoting a balanced ripening process with good levels of sugar and acidity.
The Vermentino used for this wine comes from the estate’s oldest vineyards, located at an altitude of 300 meters and facing west, where the sea breezes from the Ombrone Valley lend a classic golden hue and crispness to the skins, enriching the wine with complex aromas and a distinct savoriness. The Grechetto, from a vineyard facing northwest, also contributes elegantly to the wine's structure and freshness, thanks to its slower ripening and later harvest.
The vinification took place in 40-hl oak barrels, where the wine aged on fine lees for 9 months, developing additional complexity and depth. Irisse Montecucco Vermentino DOC 2022 was bottled on August 8, 2023, and represents a perfect expression of the unique terroir of Castello ColleMassari.
