The 2018 vintage presents itself with an intense ruby ​​red color enriched with garnet reflections. On the nose, it stands out for its olfactory complexity, with deep hints of berries, accompanied by balsamic notes, undergrowth, tobacco and aromatic herbs. On the palate, the wine is lively and elegant, with refined tannins that give an excellent balance. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a pleasant sensation of depth and harmony.

Pairs perfectly with red meats, such as beef tagliata, lamb, and duck. Excellent with aged cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino, as well as dishes enriched with mushrooms or truffles. Try it with eggplant parmigiana as well.

San Leonardo was born from the vision of Marchese Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, who in 1982 introduced an innovative approach to winemaking, dividing up the estate’s land and vinifying each variety separately to preserve its uniqueness. The vineyards, located within the ancient walls of the monastery, boast light, sandy soils for Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère, while Merlot grows on clay soils with excellent drainage. The vines, aged between 25 and 75 years, are trained using the spurred cordon, Guyot and Trentino pergola systems, at an altitude of 120-300 metres above sea level. After fermentation in small concrete tanks, the wine is aged for 24 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux, followed by a further 24 months in the bottle.
