Tasting notes
The 2019 vintage is characterized by an intense ruby red color with hints of garnet reflections. On the nose, it opens with lively aromas of fresh berries, followed by balsamic notes and a hint of aromatic herbs, tobacco and cocoa. On the palate, the wine shows a balanced structure with elegant tannins, offering a perfect balance between freshness and depth. The finish is long, with a persistence that leaves a harmonious and lasting impression.
Pairings
Perfect for accompanying dishes based on red meats, such as beef tagliata, lamb, and duck. Pairs well with aged cheeses, including Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino, and is ideal for dishes featuring mushrooms and truffles. Eggplant parmigiana is another great match.
Why we like it
The history of San Leonardo continues with the 2019 vintage, which follows the tradition inaugurated by the Marquis Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga in 1982. The vineyards, located within the ancient walls of the monastery, are planted on light and sandy soils for Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère, while Merlot grows on well-drained clay soils. The vines, which vary in age between 25 and 75 years, are grown using the spurred cordon, Guyot and pergola trentina methods, at an altitude of between 120 and 300 meters above sea level. The vinification involves fermentation in concrete tanks, followed by 24 months of aging in French oak barriques and tonneaux, and a further 24 months of rest in the bottle.
